Write your version of history

Write your version of history

You probably met Books of Time quite a few times recently if you were scrolling through Insta… If you are still wondering how it works, read on! 😉 Otherwise we are happy to hear your thoughts on it!

The turn structure is super straightforward: ☝️ you must choose 1 of 6 actions to perform, and optionally take one of the actions depicted in the central chronicle book. This book’s pages are turned each round, so each round you have different abilities to choose from - and whenever this book closes, the game ends.

The 6 actions you can do are:
📄 Grab 2 pages from the central display, putting it to your player board - this pushes other pages, so their associated costs can change.
✒️ Write pages into your books by paying their cost, then activate their instant bonus. They are always added to wherever your book is opened.
📖 Activate the 2 visible pages of of one your books, then turn the page. Pages always show some kind of action you can do.
📙 Turn the pages of any of your books then gain their instant bonus. This is not an action you want to take often, but it is useful to skip actions that currently aren’t beneficial to you, and to try to get to the end of your book - if you ever close a book, you reactivate every instant bonus and re-open it at the front.
📓 Close one of your books and reactivate all the instant bonuses before the current page. Then re-open at the front.
📤 Go up tracks, paying for as many advancements as you can. You can either take the depicted bonus, or upgrade your objectives, making them harder, but also worth more points.

Everyone starts out with objectives for their 3 books. It’s all about collecting certain icons - either in set amounts, or in a given sequence. Card randomness can make this hard, but it’s fun working towards your goals! 🙃

Certain actions like writing pages and advancing on tracks can be repeated multiple times, so it’s worth it to save up and do bigger combo turns. There are only 3 resources: paper, pens and files (which are a joker), but you need them for everything, so resource management still plays a major part.

So this is how the game works in a nutshell, we’ll be back soon with more!
