Which side do you choose?

What do you do when your feet hurt like hell and you are exhausted after all the sightseeing during holiday? πŸ€” Well you pull out a board game in your hotel room of course! 😎 We couldn't resist going into a Barnes & Nobles to check out the game section, and we picked up Land vs Sea.

This is a tile-laying game where you are placing hexagonal map tiles 🧭 - the land player tries to finish land regions, the sea player tries to close sea regions to earn points for them (similar to building cities in Carcassonne.) Bigger regions will bring more points but are risky because you might never be able to close them. πŸ™‰ You play until every tile is placed.

There is also a clever mechanic which encourages to finish areas for your opponent, and not just block them ☝️ - while they still get points for that region, you get the bonus points for the plus-shaped icons in the newly closed area.

There are two additional modules you can play with. One will have you chaining mountains ⛰️ or coral reefs 🐚 together to earn bonus points, in the other you are placing caravans 🐫 and ships β›΅ in groups for points with an additional majority scoring at the end.

I quite like this game and it looks very good on the table too. 😁 The ruleset and all the modules make for some interesting decisions, and it is satisfying to build out the map. The art is also quite unique - and strange in a good way. πŸ˜
