What we liked about Evenfall

In our last Evenfall post I briefly went into what makes the game so great: 🧐 Lots of cards and different card effects that all interact with each other in cool and interesting ways. This way as a game ends, you are already thinking about what you might do differently, or what combos you might try in the next one. 😍 I also love how you can keep stringing actions together and trying to eke out the most of your rounds, to go into the next round that much stronger. 💪

Let’s talk more about cards, as they are the essence of the game. There are different types you can gather and play! 🕵️

👉 Places of Power are not part of hand cards. They can be bought from the location boards in exchange for meeples, placing them in your Outer Circle. You don’t have many meeples so they are quite expensive, but also very useful. For one, they provide you with some income, as you can harvest them for resources, but they are also essential to play Ritual cards.

👉 Ritual cards go on top of Places of Power. Note that each Place can only hold one Ritual.  Another important thing is that Rituals only score points if you move them from your Outer Circle to your Inner Circle. However, then you cannot harvest the Places for resources! So deciding when to move things down and correctly timing is crucial. Some rituals offer action spots for meeples, so as games go on, your possibilities increase.

👉 Finally you have Specialists, which are multi-use cards. You can either play them as Specialists for their written cost, or as Council Members, tucking them under your player board for the cost depicted there.

💬 Rituals, Specialists and Council Members have different kinds of effects - it could be an instant one-time bonus, an ongoing passive effect, a round end or game end effect, etc. The best part is how they can reference other card types or keywords and trigger accordingly, making Evenfall a super fun engine builder with lots of ways to specialize yourself.
