Welcome to Spielwarenmesse!

Welcome to Spielwarenmesse!

We visited Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg yesterday, the world’s leading toy fair, which also features board games of course. Since it is not open for the public but is aimed for trade visitors, its atmosphere is completely different from what you’d experience at a convention. But one thing is the same: ☝️ the excitement for new games! 🤩 We managed to get a glimpse into a few upcoming titles that we thought might be interesting to share!

💰 Give Me The Treasure

Not the biggest, but for me the coolest looking release coming from Korea Boardgames. 😊 It’s a card game with the I-split-you-choose mechanic. You play as members of a heist team, as you try to distribute your new riches amongst yourselves. The art style is phenomenal, and I hope a European distributor picks this up quickly!

🐒 Monkey Palace

A cooperation between LEGO and Asmodee is extremely intriguing! In this game you will be building a palace together with others, while competing to be the one with the most points. As you play you are gathering cards that give you brick income and points, and use figures to block the placements of pieces for other players. Light strategy, high fun?

🧪 In the Footsteps of Marie Curie

After “In the Footsteps of Darwin” we have the next game themed around Marie Curie, published by Sorry We Are French. This one is marketed as an expert game, so it should be more complex than Darwin. The game will feature a cube tower - resources you throw in will not all come out as expected which will throw a wrench in your plans. Otherwise you have resource management and transformation with contract fulfilment.

Spoiler: Travel into the future, and check out our post about the game here:

The eventful life of Marie Curie
Before going on a short Christmas break, let’s take a look at a beautiful game that is also perfect for family gaming sessions! 🥰 Become assistants to Marie Curie and help her with experiments 🧪 and research papers 📚 regarding radioactivity, and follow along her life’s journey as she receives not

⛵ Looot

This game won me over at first sight. 🥰 The name “Looot” is cleverly designed to look like a viking longship, and I find the colors and minimalistic art style very pleasant. Gameplay consists of placing out viking meeples onto a shared board to claim the depicted resource, that you then place on your personal fjord board. Both aspects have cool tactical nuances to make for a fun experience! 😉

Of course there is more, so stay tuned 😁
