More details on saving the corals in Reef Project

Last time we introduced Reef Project and talked about its theme of restoring coral reefs and cleaning water pollution. This time I wanted to go a bit deeper into the gameplay and highlight what we like. 😉

Reef Project revolves around a chain of islands 🏝️ and the routes connecting them.

Each turn you have to move your ship 🛥️ to a different island. This is basically the action selection mechanism of the game, as every island depicts actions it lets you do.You could practically sail to any island - that is if you can pay the energy cost. ⚡ Energy is the biggest restriction for your decisions!

To make things more interesting, you can acquire and play mission cards. These often depict an island, meaning you can only use it when you are there. These either replace the island actions or give you something in addition. These are fun little short term goals. 😊

Before moving you can place down a reef ball next to you, which also costs energy.

Reef balls are essential and serve two purposes:
🔵Moving through routes with one your tokens if free, and it makes it cheaper for everyone.
🔵If every route around an ocean area has at least 1 reef ball, everyone gets points accordingly and you do a majority check to see who gets the pollution tile there. It’s a token that you can either cash in for resources, or keep as end game points.

If you run out of energy you have to do a Recharge turn, where you get to activate every income bonus on the point track below your marker. 💰

Tracks in euros are sometimes overused, but here you get 2 meaningful tracks, as advancing on them has multiple advantages. 📈

You also have 3 other types of resources, and storage for these is limited by your unplaced reef balls. These are mainly for activating your crew. 👮
You can hire crew members to expand your array of available crew abilities, and there are also bonuses for filling columns and rows of your ship.

💬We like this one! The strength of the game is how many small things you get to do each turn. It feels like you always get something so it’s really rewarding. Quick turns and cool combos make this light euro into a worthwhile and fun time. ☺️
