UKGE - Friday recap

UKGE - Friday recap

Day 1 of the UKGE started out strong with a demo of 🌕 Shackleton Base! Funnily we were a bit sad we couldn't start by exploring all of the aisles, even though otherwise you always hope to find a free table somewhere. But it was definitely worth it, as the game is excellent! 🙃

It will need a post of its own, but it's a mid-heavy weight euro with clever worker placement, big emphasis on interaction and positioning on the game board. 🧐 Replayability will be amazing, as you pick 3 neutral corporations out of 7 each game that work quite differently with their own goals and mechanics.

We also hit up 🏰 Muster: Raise the Banners, which is a cool little tug-of-war that plays quickly but has room for strategy and outplays. The illustrations are a real highlight of the game, even though we mostly saw placeholder sketches.

A must-visit was ⚔️ Ironwood, an upcoming asymmetric duel game. It was hard to grasp all the cards and interactions at first, but it showed great promise and left us wanting to play some full games with the final version.

We didn't buy too much, as suitcase space is limited (plus there aren't that many new releases), but we did buy a few smaller games. Scroll to see our mini-haul. 😉

It was fun getting to walk the convention halls again, even though the crowds are sometimes overwhelming - and it was only Friday. 😱 We also found @brodatyboardgames vigilantly standing guard at the Phalanx booth.

We wanted to continue gaming after the halls closed, so we found us a table at the hotel and rented 🪲Pyramidice - unfortunately it wasn't as good as we expected.

Later we were joined by the wonderful Octavia and César, aka. 🐞 @ladybugmeeple and played some of our haul together:

⛵️ Looot - a fun gateway type tile-laying game with pretty simple rules, but some substance and crunch factor to back it up.

🦛 Moving Wilds - a simple card drafting game of building an animal reserve, that needs more brainpower than you'd think.

🛡 Odin - a card game where you are trying to get rid of your cards faster than the others.

♻️ R-Eco+ a Japanese trash recycling game that I totally forgot to take photos of. It was crazy to say the least. 😂

Ready for Saturday!
