UKGE 2023 recap - Day 2

Our second day of UKGE was also very action packed. 😌 As the halls opened, we beelined to our biggest highlight of the day:

⛏️ Kutná Hora from ! It’s a pretty heavy euro, but with a nice flow. I loved the action selection with the double-sided cards. 🃏 As rounds go by, your possible actions get restricted until you get your cards back. The economy is very well simulated too, and there is a ton of player interaction. It will be a big hit at SPIEL! 😁

👑 The Old King’s Crown was our next stop. This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful games ever! And the gameplay holds up too! It’s mostly about hand management and placing cards secretly, trying to win clashes - but it’s not always the biggest cards winning, so there is a lot of thinking and bluffing involved. A lot to love here! 😍

🪖 Undaunted Stalingrad is the first time we tried the Undaunted series. It has a very cool deck-building mechanic, as you order your troops around the battleground, trying to take control of important territories. I am interested to play the game for real and see the legacy elements! 🙂

💍 War of the Ring The Card Game: Against the Shadow was our last stop in the Expo Halls. In this solo/co-op expansion you play against the automated Shadow Army (in our case, Roberto Di Meglio himself 😄), who follows a decision tree. It’s actually well streamlined and easy to operate - and of course super difficult to defeat, as it ignores certain restrictions players have. 🙀

After grabbing something to eat, our evening continued with another highlight! Meeting Agnes and Diogo, aka. @bearwithmeeples ! 🥰 It was super awesome! 😁 We played some more games in the hotel lobby, trying out our newest loot. We started with the ape-deck-builder 🦍 After Us, which we aim to cover in more detail soon, followed by 📐 Rome in a Day, which is a super quick and fun I-split-you-choose game combined with tile-laying. It’s a great title! 🙃 Finally we finished the evening with 🎏 Hiroba, which is an abstract area control game with Sudoku mechanics. Even better than I expected! 😮
