Trading solarpunk flowers

I briefly mentioned βοΈ Suna Valo a few days ago - another game we have played at LeiriaCon - but I thought it is also worth a post of its own. π This is a competitive 2-player game from The Game Builders who also made Planta Nubo, and you can see some of the same DNA. Suna Valo also has this solarpunk theme, and you similarly have to fulfill contracts by producing and transporting plants and flowers. βοΈ The gameplay itself is distinctly different however.
This is a tableau-building game. π Both players buy and add cards to their player board during the game. Each card type has its column, and whenever a new card is added, the whole column activates. One of these types lets you transport resources to fulfill contracts, which is a main part of the game. π§ You have to deal with limited storage, and you also have some tokens on your player board that you can play on fulfilled contracts, to gradually unlock abilities.
Another important mechanic is the pricing π΅ of cards, which reminds me of Isle of Skye (though to be fair I didn't enjoy this mechanic there either). Every time you play a card from your 3-card supply, you also choose a new one from the display to refill. You immediately have to add resources to the new card - you can later either play the card by discarding the resources, or your opponent pays you those resources and you get back your own. You can also buy cards for extra from the central display - we actually didn't do this in our game, nor did we buy from each other, as we usually were pretty low on resources, and we found that you can easily make do with cards that are cheaper.
π¬ I'd also add (not as a negative, just a remark) that the game doesn't feel like a duel game - I believe this could easily be a 4-player game if you had enough components. It is pretty nice though, if you are looking for a light to mid-weight euro for 2, that doesn't take long to play.
