The final hours of the world

Let’s talk more about 🐴 Four Horsemen, the apocalypse-stopping, demon-slaying co-operative game. 😉 I like how it reminds me of Pandemic and similar games, as you need to constantly puzzle out how to deal with all the bad things happening around the board - but it also feels like a euro, as you need to manage your supply of follower-cubes, and think about how to play out your cards every round. Oh and there is deck-building too. 🙃
A big strength of the game is variability. 👉 There are a bunch of apocalypse scenarios to choose from - basically the big bad evil you are facing. These change up the game in a huge way! Just to give you a few examples:
☠️ Hades doubles the amount of demons on the map every round, which can be devastating. It really puts the focus on slaying demons. (If there are 10+ in a region at the end of a round, you lose! 🙉)
🦏 Behemoth has a mini that walks on the map and can be attacked like demons. You win by depleting its health completely.
🐙Cthulhu makes you sacrifice extra cards every round, so your deck is pretty much decimated by the end.
And there are 20+ such baddies to play against! 😮
Then there are event cards that trigger all the bad stuff, binding ritual cards to stop the evil, and relic cards you build your deck with and use every turn. Depending on what Pantheon your chosen heroes are from, the pools of these cards change! (With the added caveat of complicating setup a bit).
Maybe something to note: the core box only has red cubes for the demons and standees for the other miniatures, so you need the Mythos box to upgrade those. The little demons can be a bit fiddly, but I think they immensely improve the table presence! 🤩
There is also the issue of the graphic design: the art itself is good and the game overall looks awesome on the table, but the text font and some of the layouts could be much better. It can be challenging to read cards from across the table.
In summary though we are convinced that this is a very solid game. It’s really fun saving the world, and like I said, the replayability due to all the possibilities makes you want to come back for more every time. 🙃
