Starship captain demo impressions

🚀 Starship Captains from CGE caught our attention some time ago. Though it's not for sale yet, we managed to play a full game of the prototype, which we enjoyed very much ☺️
The game is mostly about worker placement, and a kind of resource management with your workers. 🕵️ Your turn is fairly simple - you either activate a room or complete a mission (if your location has one).
You have 4 basic rooms at first, each requiring a different colored worker:
- 🟥 Red: move your ship twice one the map. You want to position yourself to get missions or shoot down pirates on future turns.
- 🟨 Yellow: shoot down an adjacent pirate ship. You get the reward from the token, then also the token itself which uses up cargo space but could be useful later.
- 🟦 Blue: buy tech cards for your player board. These give you end game scoring options, passive abilities or new rooms to activate. You can also connect icons on adjacent cards to get bonuses.
- ⬛ Grey: repair one damage. Your player board or cargo spaces can have damage tokens on them that block space and count as minus points.
👆Workers you use go into a queue after they are used. In the next round you will get all but 3 of them back, so the sequence in which you use them is important.
📝To fulfill missions you need the correctly colored workers then get the shown bonuses. These could also give track movement on the 3 different space stations which net you additional resources or actions and end game points.
🎖️You also get medals as a resource which you can use to change the color of workers or promote them to make them twice as powerful.
📦Some actions give you goods tokens for your cargo. These have two colors on them - if you have two with the same color you can discard them as an additional action of that color.
The game is not overly complex, but it has enough layers to deliver a very enjoyable experience. I think this will be a hit mid-weight euro when it gets released later this year. 😁
