Spielwiesn, the bavarian way of gaming

Yesterday we were visiting a local board game convention called Spielwiesn! The convention started on Friday at 13:00, though we couldn’t get off work that soon. However it was the ‘long night of games’ so they only closed at 23:00! That means we managed to get in a fair bit of gaming. 😁

It is of course quite tiny if you compare it to SPIEL for example, but it still feels really nice being at a convention. It always has a lovely atmosphere. 🥰 What I like the most (and I find lacking at SPIEL), is that there are a lot of tables set up just to sit down and play games - either that you bought or which you borrowed from the games library. Yep, there is a games library with a ton of games you can try out! The only downside is that there is no list - you just have to be eagle-eyed and spy the shelves for games that interest you.

We played a few games new to us, which we will cover in more detail later. 🙃 But here is a small taste:

🎢 Fabelland is a fun game in which you lure guests to your attractions in a magical theme park, trying to score the most balloons. It’s a new game from 2022, not sure how we missed it at SPIEL… it has gorgeous artwork!🤩

💎 Splendor Duel is the new 2-player version of the classic Splendor. The new spatial aspect of choosing your gems really elevates this to the next level. Brilliant!

🏛️ Hadara is a quite abstract civilization tableau building game. Draft cards across 3 epochs and earn the most victory points.

🌋 Lost Cities is a Reiner Knizia classic which we never played, so we decided to go for a quick test run. A very simple game about playing cards in ascending value and moving up tracks, but more fun than it sounds. 😅

Today we are headed out to Spielwiesn too. We still have a bunch of games in mind we would really like to try out! 😁

❓ What are some games you would like to try out, but not sure about buying?
