Spielwiesn 2024, here we go!

The year is slowly coming to a close - but the convention season has one last convention in store for us! 😍 This time we are visiting Spielwiesn, an annual Bavarian convention. It’s our first time since it has moved from Munich to Augsburg and it is so good to see it grow! It takes place from 8-10. November and if you happen to live around here, it‘s not too late to join yet. 😉
Yesterday we could only come here in the afternoon after work, but luckily it was the night of long gaming so everything was open until 11PM! 😁
Spielwiesn is much smaller than the main conventions we usually visit, but in exchange it‘s a lot more breezy and you have more time to chat or find a table to play. There are plenty of German publishers exhibiting where you can try the latest hot German releases - many new titles from SPIEL too! There is also a huge area set up with tables and chairs just for playing and there is a games library to try out things! (With a few thousands boxes waiting for people 🙃).
The event is very family friendly with additional activities besides board gaming - I was jealous of those kids in the water running thingy you see on the last picture. 😂
But we have seen painting workshops or a Catan tournament in the program too, so there is something for everyone!
And let‘s not forget the best gaming accessory you could wish for: board gaming tables! Alex from kapplex showed us the latest designs - I just call them the „modern nongamer living room-friendly“ version of our epic Altar - they really look good in every space.

We ended up chatting away our time so in the end we didn‘t play a lot - which we will rectify on Saturday! 🙂
But we did play a game we have been curious about for a long time: Villa Mechanica from Apex Ideenschmiede . This is an abstract duel game, with two rival bands infiltrating the house of a rich inventor. The main twist in the game is how the playing field is made up of cubes that players (and neutral guards) will be able to push around and rotate so the layout of walls keeps changing. A very exciting concept! It is still a prototype, so we can‘t wait to see a more advanced version next year.
