Spiel 2024 recap - Day 3
Day 3 of Spiel'24 flew by fast, and we managed to play more games! π€©π We also took part in the Math Trade - or rather the Essen No Shipping Auction, a really fun feature of Spiel . It's a great way to sell some games and make place for all the new loot; or to find some gems that you've been looking for. It's quite a spectacle as Hall 7 fills up with tons of people carrying signs and looking for each other. π
We started out with ποΈ Monumental Duel by Fun Forge which is a 2p version of their civilization builder game. It has the same main mechanism: deck-building and drawing cards to your 3x3 grid where you activate a row and column each turn. The game is actually very nice, it's a pity there were problems with their older Kickstarter.π€
We tried some games from Helvetiq: π§ Yaxha is about building pyramids, scoring for groups of the same colored stones at the end. It's super fast and simple, playing cards to choose a market tile of stones each turn.
βοΈ Ninjan is a small box game: players simultaneously play cards to claim stacks with rock-paper-scissors rules, but player order changes according to card values, so stacks might be gone before you get to act.
π¦ Tucano is another of the small box series. A very quick and easy set collection game. As you play cards constantly get added to 3 stacks of cards so you have to keep evaluating what to take - there are cards that are good to collect, but some are worth minus points.
𦫠Beaver Creek is a little dexterity game by Four Fun Games that we just had to get. π You roll dice that determines how many logs and beavers you have to place and how you have to place them.
We played a demo of π Quarz at Till 5 am Games which is an upcoming skirmish and capture-the-flag game for 2-4 players!
To close out the day we played another civ building game by Ares Games , βοΈ Altay: Dawn of Civilization at the hotel with Alex from Talking Shelf Space . It's a really streamlined game of deck-building. It felt ultimately a bit underwhelming as it quickly devolves into a simple combat mechanic - we did start out playing it wrong so I'll give the game the benefit of the doubt.
And here are 2 photos, just for fun π
