Spiel recap - Day 2
Thursday was great but it wasn't filled with too much gaming. Friday we managed to make up for it! Let's dive right into some games! 😊
First we tried 🎍Bamboo: It's a clever little game where drafting bamboo tokens decides what actions you can take and also which temple's majority scoring you can take part in. Plus there is a nice spatial puzzle for organizing tiles on your board to match objectives!
Then we sat down to 🧣Jokkmokk: The Winter Market. It's a fast and fun card drafting game. You can go anywhere with your meeples to grab cards, but it's always the person behind that gets to go, so you can't be too greedy. This was a great surprise!
Afterwards we went to the press event organized by Asmodee where we could try some of their newest games. 👍
First 🐑 Tipperary which is a cool little tile-laying game with many adjacency rules to consider with each placement.
🚂 Ticket to Ride: Legends of the West, which is the legacy version of TTR. This was just the very first scenario, so it was basically like the normal game.
🕰️ Hickory Dickory is a mesmerizingly beautiful and cute game where you control a family of mice who are collecting items, jumping on and off of a clock's hands. It's a family-weight game but seems long for what it is.
🏢 High Season is the roll&write version of Grand Austria Hotel. It's very much like the original with the same action selection, and a lot of combos to plan for.
After we left the event we found a table for 📐Pyramido. It's a clever fast-paced tile-layer, in which you layer up tiles to build a pyramid, scoring after each layer. Awesome!
We met the lovely Sophie of @sitdowngames who gave us an overview of their new #SPIEL23 games 🗺️ Maps of Misterra and 📷 Redwood. You definitely want to check these out, both offer a very different experience! We absolutely love the uniqueness in each of their titles. We got a sneak peek at 2 upcoming games too: 🐲Open Season, a clever card-drafting game and 🗝️ Magic Maze Tower, a no-communication co-op puzzler!
When the convention closed, we went to a 🛸 Star Wars: Unlimited event, and got some in-depth details of this upcoming trading card game. But more on it in a separate post. 😉
