Spiel 2024 preview 5
Spiel is about to begin so let’s talk about a final batch of games - covering some 2-player specific ones. As we most often play 2p, we love games that have been specially designed for it, and these games are all standouts in this category! And all available at the convention! 😁
🐺 Lone Wolves - Wonderful World Boardgames at Booth 2E330
A brilliant mix of area-control and trick-taking, and it works splendidly. Cards played for tricks also count for tug-of-war contests over territories. The loser of a trick has to flip their card to its weak side, but in exchange they can take a token from that territory, bringing them other advantages. Read more about it here.
💃 Tango - Grail Games at Booth 3F111
Another trick-taker but with another twist. Players have cards both in their hands and in front of them on the table, and each trick will consist of 4 cards - 1 card each from hand, and 1 each from the table. This adds another layer of information and thus strategy to decisions. Read more about it here.
🎎 Chu Han - Matagot at Booth 3F111
This one is a climbing game. Players play sets of cards with the same number, with the goal of getting rid of all their cards first. For each set the other player has to respond with the same number of cards, but with better value. Thanks to how the deck is structured there are some nuances to this, and some of the cards have special abilities. Oh and you can use event cards that have a big influence on rounds! Read more about it here.
💍 Duel for Middle-Earth - Asmodee at Booth 6D200
I guess this is a no-brainer game for many. 7 Wonders Duel, but with a Lord of the Rings theme, and amazing art by Vincent Dutrait. Of course there are some twists to the core of the game, so you get a new experience. Having played this, it is just as good as you might expect - and maybe even better! Read more about it here.
