Spiel 2023 recap - Day 4
Sundays at SPIEL are always a bit bittersweet. The crowds were actually not bad, as many people go home after Saturday, so you see a lot more free tables, however in the afternoon many booths start packing up, signalling the end of this great "Gamer's Christmas". 🥲
We could've played a lot more but we decided to spend the last day exploring the halls and checking what booths we might have missed, because it always feels like we have just barely seen the convention. We still played a few games of course!
🧑🚒 Firefighters on Duty of @artipia_games is an upcoming real-time co-op dice rolling game of extinguishing fires and saving people. Good but maybe too much dice randomness.
📦 Unboxed by @wizkidsgames has a strange albeit unique concept: there are a bunch of components in each module and you try to find out the rules of the game. Not sure about this one.
🌌 Orion Duel by @matagot.friends was a nice surprise. It's a 2p abstract tile-laying game with 3 win conditions, and it looks awesome. We bought this immediately after 2 games. 😁
As the day goes by, you see a lot of empty tables, but somehow also no explainers. 🤔
We cut our day a bit shorter to have more time playing in the hotel and waved the Convention Center goodbye.
In the hotel we started off simple with 💍 Similo: Lord of the Rings and the promo Similo: SPIEL23 by @horribleguild. It was our first time playing Similo, but we immediately fell in love with the concept: it's a no communication co-op game, as a player plays cards to give clues to find a target card from 12. 🕵🏻
✈️ Sky Team by @scorpionmasque was a hugely anticipated game, and it totally delivered! Another no communication co-op, as pilot and co-pilot tries to safely land a plane with dice placement. Super thematic and works amazingly! 😍
🦊 Fox Experiment by @pandasaurus_games is a roll and write but also so much more. Lots of components and things going on, so we ended up playing until 1 o'clock in the night, even though we were exhausted and sleepy. 😄
On Monday our drive home with the precious cargo begins. 🚗 Can't wait to play all these amazing new games. 🥰
