Spiel 2023 recap - Day 3
Saturday of SPIEL23 started off with a demo of Civolution, an upcoming game from Stefan Feld. It was a 4 hour demo 🙀. We were hesitant to sign up and sacrifice half a convention day, but it's very hard to find empty tables on Saturday so we went for it.
The time only enough for half a game, so that should speak for the complexity. This is not the usual streamlined Feld euro. It was just a prototype and you could feel it as the game was a bit rough around the edges, but it shows great promise. The focus is the action selection, as you use dice each turn to choose from a matrix of actions. We will do an extended post about this game, because there is a lot to say. ☝️
We had to head over to the trading area, as we sold a couple of games in the BGG no shipping auction. It's always a bit difficult to organize everything, but it's nice to win some shelf place for all the new games we are bringing home.
We also finally met the awesome Ayman @boardgamesinvienna ! 😁
There wasn't too much gaming afterwards, the halls were simply packed so much. We did play some Wok and Roll which is a small roll&write game about completing recipes.
Also met the wonderful Tamas and Krisztina from @lemerygames , who are making the amazing Reviving Kathmandu (a brilliant bidding and card-drafting game about building pagodas and temples you might have read about on our channel before.) They also gifted us Bagh Chal, a tiny abstract game from Nepal😍
At the end of the day we were struggling to make a picture for today's recap post, then Agnes from @bearwithmeeples and Luci @diaryofaboardgamergirl came to the rescue to snap a photo of us. 😅 We were happy to see you guys 🥰
We closed the day with a relaxed gaming night in the hotel and cracked open a few of our smaller games. Heroes for Sale from Kosmos was an instant hit! It is a 2-player auction game where you bid for heroes and try to take out the bases of the opponent.🤭
Sail is another unique gem! 2p co-op no-communication trick-taking game! We barely survived the tutorial scenario, so there is a lot to explore! 😛
Another short game of Unrest from Pandasaurus Games was the only thing we managed before going to sleep.
