Saturation turned to eleven

Do you like colors? 🎨 Wroth has them - all of the colors! 😄 Chip Theory Games really turned the saturation up to eleven in this one, and I have to say we love it! It has an incredibly striking table presence, of course bundled with usual Chip Theory style neoprene mats, dice and chips. I tend to find the amount of mats in their games a bit of an overkill, but now holding our first CTG game in our hands, I do like them a lot. 🤩
Wroth is a dudes-on-a-map style area control game. The big box could indicate a huge grand strategy game, but it is a lot lighter than one might think. ☝️ And lightning fast!
The central mechanic is dice drafting. 🎲 Depending on player count (1-4) you roll some dice each round and draft them one at a time, then do actions with them. It's simple things like bringing in new troops, moving them around, attacking enemies or getting crystals to buy elite troops.
What really makes the game shine are all the asymmetric factions - these all have unique elite troop types with cool abilities, and special feat cards which greatly influence your playstyle. Elite troops are actually dice, but those dice aren't rolled. They just act as tokens with a “built-in” life counter.
There are 5 factions in the base box and 2 more with expansions. That's a lot of asymmetry to play around with! 🥳
The map consists of 8 regions, each containing a random scoring token. Whoever has more troops in a region at the end of a round, gets those points - and if the token shows an action, you get to do those too. The game itself is a race. Whoever reaches 30 points first, wins. 🏆
The game probably really shines with 3 or 4 players, but our 2p duels are fun as well. It's really fast, tactical and explosive, and 30 points can be reached in just a few rounds (let’s just say, the turn counter is a D6 😂), which is not a problem as you can very quickly reset and go again. 💪
There is also a co-op mode against an Automa, which works with every faction! But maybe more on that later. 🙃
