Reni's favorites in 2022

So here it is, 2022 is almost over so I can’t resist joining many of you and create some kind of a toplist of games I’ve played this year. 🥰 I really had a hard time ranking games, since we play and end up enjoying so many different genres that are actually hard to compare. 😇

This year we played 214 different games, 174 of them were new to us! This means, many of our “older” games didn’t see the table this year, which makes me a bit sad. 🥲
Still, I tried my best and compiled this list which is definitely missing many great games (but I took a sneak peak in Kristof’s list, so maybe some of them will come up there).

So here comes my absolutely subjective list of favorite new to me games in 2022 🥳 (in no particular order)! I chose games not based on weight, genre or theme, but on the memorable moments I had playing them!

🌜Violet and the Grumpy Nisse: This one is a really unique piece in our collection, a trick taking game that was designed for 2p! I love that it is quick, and that it has surprisingly much tactical agency despite the card draw randomness. I even sleeved the cards, which I normally don’t do. 🥹

🏴‍☠️ Dead Reckoning: Definitely the best production quality I’ve seen this year, I like the very engaging gameplay, the card crafting and the pirate theme!

🌕 Skymines: We played this rethemed version of Mombasa at GenCon, and remember having a blast and that the whole game flow was just super satisfying!

🧞 Wayfarers of the South Tigris: It just recently joined our collection, and is quite AP inducing, yet I always want another round when we are done!

🪐 ISS Vanguard: Finally a campaign game with Sci-Fi theme! This time they managed to balance the story/gameplay ratio quite well and it has that Mass Effect vibe I was looking for!

🏵️ Sabika: It’s strange how satisfying it is to squeeze one last extra combo out of this! 😂

🤖 Scythe: I love how fast it plays and that I immediately want to play it again. Not to mention art and theme!

🧙 Pagan: An absolute hit for 2 players, such a tense experience! (And I could win both as the witch and the witch hunter, so… 🤣)
