Rebuild the city of Kathmandu
In 🔔Reviving Kathmandu you play as builders traveling to Nepal to help restore all kinds of monuments after the earthquake in 2015. You want to become the most prestigious architect by gathering the most points after 8 rounds. Points are awarded for building Buddhas, Shrines, Stupas and Pagodas by stitching together cards - each card depicts two monuments parts, and you choose which ‘half’ you want to use. The way you get cards is by bidding for them in a really clever way!

Each player has 5 coins valued from 1 to 5. Each round you place a coin in an empty spot around a grid of cards to bid on either a row or a column. Bigger coin value wins (closest breaks ties), but you won’t get used coins back for a while, so you have to make careful decisions. 🧐 It is possible you won’t get any cards from bidding - in this case you get to draw from another deck of cards, though these only have 1 monument part on them.
We really enjoy this game! ☺️ It is simple but with a cunning twist, and it plays fast. Perfect as a quick game even as seasoned gamers, but it would be ideal to draw non-gamers into the hobby as well! The bidding is great and there are also mission cards that award additional points if you match the requirements, and a set-collection element based on the colors used in monuments.
The game has enough decisions and agency so that everyone can appreciate it!
I want to give a shout-out to the 2-player mode. This doesn’t just make Reviving Kathmandu playable with 2p with a few small tweaks, but makes the game even more fun. You both bid with 2 coins, and also get twice as many cards each round. So you build twice as many monuments and score twice as many points. It’s really cool. 🥳
Last but not least, a special mention for the quality of the game. There is a little playmat for the cards, and players get double layered boards to track their points, plus nice wooden coins for bidding. And the metal first player token looks awesome! 🤩

A prototype of this game was kindly shared by the publisher for us to try out. Just a heads-up: all the components are prototypes, so things might look or play a bit differently in the final version. For more details, check out our content policy.
