Psst! It's a secret...
I have said it before and I’ll say it again: I love the concept of micro games. 😁 Making a compelling game with a deck of just 18 cards seems impossible, but it’s being done again and again. The newest one we tried is a preview copy for 💼Classified Information by @incrediquest .
This is a 2-player deduction duel game with multi-use cards. Let’s see how that all works! 🕵️
⚙️Basically players will draw a card and play a card each turn, until the deck runs out and both players have just one card remaining in their hand. This is when the game ends and players reveal their last remaining card, and their “suitcase” card that they got in secret at setup. ☝️If your last card’s number matches a number in the code on the opponent’s suitcase’s, you’ve won.
So your job is to deduce the number on said suitcase, and try to keep a card that gets you the win, while trying to protect your own suitcase. Not easy!
On your turn you always have 3 ways to play a card:
1️⃣ Activate the card’s ability. Many of these will give you information about the opponent’s suitcase code.
2️⃣ Use the card’s guild affiliation. Cards are either 🛡️Guards that can defend your suitcase from your opponent, or 🗡️Assassins that can defeat enemy guards, or 👁️Sentinels that are either played as a guard or an assassin.
3️⃣ Encrypt, meaning you discard your card facedown to hide valuable information from your rival.
You start your turn with 2 cards and draw a 3rd one, so you always have an array of possible plays. Which card do you keep, which card do you play - and in what way do you play it?
Already played cards can be tracked on a dry-erase sheet, which helps you narrow down the possible cards your rival might have.
💬 Classified Information has 3 different decks that you can also mix and match to have more variability between games. I think it’s a unique concept how all the cards interact, forcing you to think carefully not only about the cards you play, but the ones you keep! The game definitely benefits from multiple plays to develop the right strategy, but since it only takes about 15 min, you’ll quickly get better at it!
It is live on Kickstarter right now, so go check it out!
A prototype of this game was kindly shared by the publisher for us to try out. Just a heads-up: all the components are prototypes, so things might look or play a bit differently in the final version. For more details, check out our content policy.
