Pirating again, this time in co-op!
💣 Dead Men Tell No Tales is an awesome co-op pirate game, a perfect continuation of our pirate week. Have you ever said to yourself “I wish Pandemic was about pirates boarding a cursed ship, fighting fires and battling its skeleton crew, defeating guards and getting away with valuable treasure”? Well we have a treat for you then! 😅 If you add the expansion you also get a vicious Kraken that is trying to snap the ship in half with its countless tentacles!
Sadly those tentacles come in grey, which we could not let stand. So the minis you see here are the results of yesterday's speed painting session!
And now about the game:
🧭 During every turn you will put a new tile into the ship as you explore it further.
🏃 Then you can spend your action points on different actions. Your goal is to get enough treasures and get off the ship alive (and also defeat the Kraken with the expansion) - there are a lot of possible conditions for defeat though, as you might know from Pandemic-like co-ops.
🃏 After your action phase you draw a card which escalates your potential demise - fires will grow, deckhands may pop out of trapdoors and the skeleton crew will hunt you down. Playing with the Kraken also means you draw a Kraken card to resolve his turn.
There are a bunch of cool ideas in the game: yellow and red dice in rooms shows how strong the fire is. You have a dial that shows your fatigue, which limits your possible actions as it grows. You can keep swapping item cards to get abilities that fit your current situation, and of course every player has unique abilities. You put double sided tokens into each room as they get explored, either spawning skeleton crew, guards or new trapdoors. Combat is resolved by dice rolls 🎲 but it fits the fast pace of the game. The expansion brings even more awesome stuff. 😁
💬 There are so many ways you can lose, so you always have to be vigilant and prioritise whatever seems to be the most problematic. There is a bit more things to keep track of than in Pandemic. I love these kinds of co-op games and Dead Men Tell no Tales is no exception. This is another Kane Klenko masterpiece. 😍
