🕵️👻 Paranormal Detectives is a deduction party game where one person plays as a ghost trying to describe the circumstances of their death, with the other players as detectives trying to communicate with them to understand what happened.

I am not a fan of Activity-like party games so when my brother proposed that we play it I wasn’t convinced at first 🙈 . However after playing a few rounds I did notice the game is quite fun! The cringe levels don’t rise overly high in this one 😂

To begin a game the ghost player draws a card that describes the details of their death:
🗡️ Who is the killer?
🗡️ Why did they do it?
🗡️ Where did it happen?
🗡️ What was the cause of death?
🗡️ What tool/weapon was used?

Then in turn the detectives can ask open ended questions to get some of those details and put together the story. When asking a question you also have to play a card from your hand that determines what type of help you get. 🧐 It could be letters on an Ouija board, a drawing where the ghost moves your hand and pen on a paper, tarot cards, strings laid out in certain shapes and other quite vague things like that - this vagueness provides the fun factor of the game, as often the guesses of the detectives will be way off; or sometimes they will luckily guess the exact truth from some obscure answers.

Some of the stories are quite hard to convey as the ghost, or quite hard to guess as a detective. There is a limited quantity of cases to solve in the game, but I think it wouldn’t be hard to think of and write a few ones when playing.

There is a competitive and a co-operative mode. 🤔 We only tried co-op and would say that should be the real way to play this, as the discussions on what the answer could mean will be a lot more funnier than just sitting in silence and hiding your ideas.

Our biggest gripe with the game are the cards. We felt like we never used some because they felt useless, and some were a must because they had the most potential for useful information. I wish they were somehow more balanced.
Still for fans of party games this should be a good one. 😃
