October recap

October recap

October was a good month. Very good indeed! 😁 Of course powered by Spiel there were no shortage of games to play - be it in the convention halls or at home with our haul.
But I think SPIEL doesn’t just provide new releases but a boost to the passion we already strongly feel towards the hobby. It’s truly like an evolution of Christmas for board gamers. 😅

We played a ton of games (47 unique games to be precise). It’s hard to select a few to highlight, but here are a few that made a big impression on us.

🌷 Revive
One of our best euro purchases of this year, Revive provides a lot of possibilities for strategies, engine building and combos. It is very satisfying to play.

🏴‍☠️ Dead Reckoning
Card crafting greatness by John D. Clair in a pirate themed euro is as good as it sounds. We are really glad we managed to get a hold of this game!

🎵 Lacrimosa
Definitely the most unique theme in the new euro releases. We also find the gameplay very appealing and thinky, and thus enjoy playing.

🏰 Sabika
The triple rondel was the unique selling point of this game. Thankfully it works as splendidly as I hoped it would. Somehow this game goes really under the radar, although I think it deserves a lot more praise.

🧠 Unconscious Mind
This is one we only played a demo of, but are still incredibly hyped about. I think for me either this or Darwin’s Journey could be the best Euro of 2023.

🌿 Garden Nation
A very clever and fast playing area-control/contract-fulfillment game with amazing artwork. It works very well, even with 2p, which usually a tough ask for area control games.

⛩️ Tokaido Duo
This is a really light and quick 1v1 game of racing to get more points than your opponent. The art and components are a joy to look at.

🪓 Woodcraft
The newest game from deliciousgames. Though Vladimir Suchy is only a co-author here you can feel a lot of the DNA of his games. This one is also a blast to play with a ton of well implemented ideas.
