Nordic legends come alive

Have you played Lords of Hellas or Lords of Ragnarok? Lords of Ragnarok is our ‘latest and greatest’ game arriving from Kickstarter. I remember feeling a bit left out when Lords of Hellas (the predecessor) came out a few years back, and we were considering buying it, but then as Lords of Ragnarok got announced we decided to go for it instead. 👍 We realized it should have a tweaked and better ruleset, and also a dedicated 2-player mode, so it was the logical choice.

We were excited to get this game, but since backing it we have tried games like Root and Ankh and fell in love with area control games a lot, so our excitement grew even more! 🤩 We often feel like player interaction in euros can be hurtful, but in these direct conflict games it’s a lot better for us, as it’s the theme and goal of the game to be opponents. ⚔️
Having played some top-tier area-control games recently also put the bar somewhat high for Lords of Ragnarok - still, our first impressions of the game are great! 😉

Awaken Realms games are a pretty safe bet for us. If having Adam Kwapinsky as a designer wouldn’t be enough, just look at this astonishing artwork and the miniatures they always produce! This game is no exception, it definitely makes our painter hearts beat faster! There are different heroes, warriors, ships, monsters and monuments - having gone all-in we also have buildings and terrain pieces as minis! 😁 It’s awesome how the multi-piece monuments are built in multiple steps!

So what’s the game about? Well, you play as a hero leading your armies, hunting monsters and conquering regions in this strange futuristic nordic mythology setting. There are actually 4 ways the game can end which really has you on your toes! You have to be wary of your opponent’s every step, because mistakes can quickly cost you the game!
