New years resolution?
Let’s talk about the Shelf of Shame. Or Shelf of Opportunity? I like the more positive sound of the latter, though it has mostly become shame in our house. 🙈😅 We play a lot of games, yet we still can’t manage to play everything we buy. We have recently decided to move our board games to another room and buy some new shelves, which means we reorganized the unplayed games into a huge pile. 😵
I guess there are 3 reasons for the move: First, we have ordered a board game table which will arrive in a few months 🥳🥳. Second, we need more space as the collection just got out of hand; which leads us to the Third: we have decided that the era of the Kallax is over. They look cool, but there is so much lost space, and the empty spaces left in each cube can look somewhat silly.
Anyway, moving the games means there is a new shelf dedicated just for unplayed games. The Shelf of Shame is no longer a poorly maintained excel sheet, but a physical shelf. I hope this will make it easier to work through them 😄
Our new year resolution is to play (or sell some?) unplayed games and to stop buying games we don’t really need. Though luckily with every year we get better at this. At first we just jumped on every sale (a lot of our games were much cheaper than full price), however we have so many games that "bad" ones might not even be worth the time investment, even if they were free. 😶
We have counted around 12 kallax cubes worth of unplayed games (to be fair there are some recent acquisitions too), which is why I am leaning more towards “Shame” than “Opportunity”. 😅 Well, here is hoping we manage to get them all played somehow - which might prove difficult as new releases arrive during the year.
