More about Woodcraft

🪓Woodcraft🪓 seems to be loved by everyone. I guess it is not really that surprising, @deliciousgamesboard keeps churning out great games. We already shared out first experiences here but can’t resist to talk about it again. 🤩 We also love it very much and it opens up and becomes even better after some plays. 🥰 You realize that even though you have a limited amount of actions, you can do a lot. But also that you really have to prioritize what you upgrade in your workshop, as you simply just can’t upgrade everything.

Woodcraft is all about contract-fulfillment which worried me a little before getting the game. 😶 Normally contract fulfillment is quite monotonous: you just get some stuff that is needed, turn it in, get some points, rinse and repeat. In this game though, gathering the things for the order is exciting, and somewhat of a puzzly mini-game in itself. Even if you don’t exactly have everything you need, you could transform it with some free actions.

You could use scrapwood and your splicing token to add to dice pip values, glue together two smaller dice to get a bigger one, or chop up a bigger die into smaller ones. It is really an amazing idea and really adds to the theme of controlling a woodworking workshop. What also makes it so satisfying is that all this splicing, glueing and sawing are free actions. So even though you feel a bit limited in what you can do with your main actions, here you are allowed to run free and do whatever 😋 (Well, of course only if you have tokens to flip. But those aren’t too restrictive). My favorite thing is doing an additional tiny offcut, then planting it in a pot so it can grow into a huge tree again. 😁

The rewards of contracts are also usually more interesting than just some points - you can get money, scrap/glue/sawblade tokens, dice or reputation. So picking new contracts is also another layer in your decision making.
