❓Have you played 🤖 Robot Quest Arena?

I think it stands in that perfect middle ground if you want something lighter to play but still want some excitement. At its core it’s standard deck-building, where you just play your 5 cards every turn and draw back up to 5 again. Yet it is also an all-out brawl in an arena with mechs that get access to stronger and stronger tools and weapons as the game goes on. 😁

Turns are super fast, and even if your mech explodes, you come right back on your next turn, jumping back into the fray. If enough mech explosions happen, the game is over, and whoever dished out more damage and mayhem is deemed victorious. 💪 Quite fitting for a mech battle-royale. 🤭

Other than dealing damage, you can also get victory points with certain card/tile effects, but a notable mechanic is that starting your turn in the middle 9 hexes also earns you a point. This mechanic encourages you to play boldly and go out there - a fun addition is how the basic map setup puts spikes in the very middle, so “bold” mechs can be knocked into it for extra damage. 😈

While you mainly just move around, gather energy to buy cards and smash other mechs in melee combat, there are many fun cards that introduce more mechanics. Pushing and pulling mechs to get them into more disadvantageous positions is definitely a fun one, but I could also mention a big laser ☄️ that deals damage to everything in a straight line. Other ranged weapons use rules for line of sight, so you can strategically hide behind walls or other mechs. Of course there are cool utility tools too that let you e.g. fly over obstacles, move diagonally, or gain temporary control over rival mechs. 😉

Plenty of effects in the deck of cards! Add to that the asymmetrical player mechs and the map grid that you can freely set up with tiles with different effects and you have got yourself a nice dose of replayability. 👍 Oh and I do see a few interesting expansion robots too. 🤩
