More about the Disney skirmish game

šŸ’« Disney Sorcererā€™s Arena: Epic Alliances is a skirmish/arena battle game in which you draft a team of 3 characters - chosen from Heroes and Villains of Disney and Pixar movies - to duke it out with your opponentā€™s team. āš”ļø The action is driven by a hand-management card system.

After the draft you shuffle the decks of your characters together. Characters are activated one at a time in a given turn order. šŸ§ You can move, attack and use your skills - either playing cards from your hand that are specific to the active character or using standard abilities. KOā€™d characters come back on their next round, ready to continue the fight. You play until until someone has 20 victory points šŸ†, then finish the round. Points are earned for KOā€™ing rival characters, starting your turn on one of the golden spots in the middle, or from certain card/skill effects.

You can also upgrade your characters to unlock an additional ability - for this you use icons from discarded cards. This gives an additional layer to the game. šŸ™‚

We enjoyed our first plays a lot. šŸ„° There is quite some strategy with the card play - you can discard cards to boost your standard abilities but card-draw is hard to come by. You could also play certain cards for a decent outcome, or wait and set it up more for bigger combosšŸ™€. The game will be pretty fast playing, but at first we had to read a lot of text on the cards - this is one of those games where the rulebook itself is quite short, as most of the game is in the cards themselves. There is also strategy in drafting a synergistic team together, though we were mostly just choosing randomly, without reading any of the abilities. šŸ˜…

The character and card art is of course beautiful, but we have some complaints about component quality. Some cards and tiles have visible scratches on them, but the worst are some of the acrylic standees. ā˜¹ļø These look awesome, but some of them barely have any color (even after removing the protective films). Not sure if it is just an issue with our copy.

Still we can gladly recommend this game as it is great fun šŸ˜Š.
