More about Tenby
I've never been to the picturesque town of 🏘️ Tenby, but after playing the game inspired by it I'm definitely adding it to my travel bucket list! 🙂 In this card drafting game for 1-4 players, players will each construct their own version of the town, by creating streets of terraces and piers, carefully linking up cards to maximize their scores!
I like that Tenby doesn't just do simple drafting: ☝️instead players first choose a card each round that determines player order and what types of cards can be taken. Going first might let you pick up that vital card for your tableau, while going later will usually let you take more stuff.
The quintessential part of the game are all the little details 🔍 on the street cards. Pigeons, lamps, clouds, benches, chimneys, flowers, binoculars and so many more can be on a card - and every card has a scoring condition that looks for one of these features on the neighboring 2 or 4 cards. The more rare Landmark cards will score for every card in a street! So during the game you are constantly checking the open ends of all your streets, evaluating the best choices when taking cards. 🕵️ Stair transitions between terraces and piers will also make your efforts harder!
Resident 👤 cards add another layer to this evaluation-task. They don't get added to the town, but instead score for the whole tableau depending on their depicted condition. You might want all your streets to have 5 red houses, or build one street with 8 benches. These definitely add both to the fun and to the challenge.
💭 Tenby is a pretty straightforward and simple card drafting game, but it has just enough twists and challenges to keep you interested and coming back for more. The simplistic line art and the tranquil nature of the game add up to a really relaxing time! ☺️ Tenby is launching on Kickstarter this Sunday, so make sure to give it a look! 😉
