Medieval interactions

Troyes was one of our newer acquisitions last month, so we decided to quickly get it off the shelf of opportunity. πŸ™ƒ

During the game you use dice 🎲 to do different actions - not just your own dice but with money you can buy the dice of your opponents too. The amount of dice players get each round depends on how many meeples they have in the 3 buildings on the board.

A cool feature is the activity cards. Each game you will have 9 activities randomly chosen out of 27 that will become available as the game goes on. So every game should play differently, where you form your strategy around these.

Event cards also get revealed each round, that affect everyone. You can combat these events with your dice to make them go away and earns some points in the process.

Many interesting systems and gameplay mechanics work together here and it all sounds good, however I didn't really enjoy our playthrough. Somehow actions often felt meaningless to me, or I felt like I am not achieving anything. 😟

I am also not fond of the player interaction. Buying dice from other players can often screw up their carefully constructed plans - even though you pay them money for it. This could be perfect for real cutthroat gamers though. πŸ—‘

So in summary Troyes is not really our cup of tea, but I certainly understand why people like it. On paper I like it as well, it just somehow didn't click with us.
