Managing your own magic shop is fun

Merchants of Magick is a roll&write game in which you manage a magic shop that creates items for adventurers. πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ πŸ§β€β™€οΈ

At first glance the sheet you get might look like an excel sheet from your nightmares. πŸ˜…
However after the first games you realize the layout is actually quite clever. Also the art of the game and the many colors are very pleasant to look at. 🀩

Merchants of Magick is very good, we immediately played 4 whole games back-to-back. 😁 There are always lots of decisions to be made - like in any good roll&write. There may be some luck factor involved though when you get new order cards.

Each turn 4 dice are rolled: a D6, a D8, a D10 and a D12. From these you pick 2 to use during your turn. You can also get potion tokens that help you change the die values. The game is over after 10 turns.

You create magical items, so you need to be able to craft the physical accessories, armor or weapons and you have to be able to enchant them with magic. For crafting you usually need high values for enchanting low values. Also depending on the material and type of magic only certain type of dice are suitable.

At any time you have a certain amount of order cards above your sheet you can complete. Each turn the leftmost order goes to the player sitting to your left though. There is also a sponsored adventurer that you can equip to earn bonuses (they are basically like 3 order cards that stay with you).

Additionally there are 2 public mastery cards randomized during setup that has you specialize in a certain way to race for some bonus points.

Merchants of Magick is definitely a keeper!
