Look at the stars!

Look at the stars!

When was the last time you enjoyed the stars of the night sky? Look at the Stars is a flip&write game about.. well, looking at stars. 😄 Players will be drawing stars on their boards as instructed by cards, creating constellations to score points. There are some rules making this endeavour difficult.

A game is split up into 3 rounds, and in each one you will go through a deck of 6 cards. Cards depict lines that you have to draw on your board. 🖋️ Your goal is to make constellations by connecting up lines - the more lines, the more points they'll be worth, but there is a caveat: ☝️ you can only score one constellation of each size, and anything more than 8 lines will score zero. This rule will make your board feel really cramped, really quick, which is the primary challenge of the game: placing lines without connecting 2 bigger constellations. Also, as rounds go by you won’t be able to use the lowest part of your board, symbolizing the rising sun.

There are also 2 special cards that you use each game. Both will depict a special formation that you try to replicate with your constellations - one for bonus points, the other for special effects. These can spice up games and add replayability.

After the 3rd round you add up points, which come from the mentioned constellations and special cards, but also from shooting stars you drew and planets that you surrounded with constellations.

💭 Look at the Stars doesn’t bring much new to the flip&write genre, but it has a nice combination of mechanics to make things interesting. The theme is cool, especially if you are into astronomy. A nice touch is how you are drawing white lines on a black board, as if you were illuminating the night sky with stars.😊
