Light(er) favorits of 2023

After showing our top 10 new-to-us heavy games of 2023, it’s time for the lighter games to get a spotlight too. 💡 We decided to split the list like this, basically so we can highlight 20 games and have less heartbreak having to choose. 😅
☝️ Keep in mind again, these are not necessarily games released this year, but games we have played that were new to us. Let’s start!

🧠 Mind MGMT
We really dove deep into this game in January. It’s a phenomenal hidden movement game with spades of logical deduction. Being able to play co-op with an app is a cherry on top.

🎩 Jekyll & Hyde vs Scotland Yard
A 2p co-op no-communication trick-taking game. Works splendidly, fast and smooth, and just really fun.

🌌 Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game
You don’t hear much about this game now, but it’s really great! A Star Realms type deck building game with some unique new ideas and a Star Wars theme!

🗺️ Maps of Misterra
A really cool tile-laying game where you are making a map and exploring an island at the same time, trying to map out the real terrain, while also wanting to satisfy your sponsor’s wishes. Beautiful and unique!

✈️ Sky Team
A 2p co-op dice placement game, in which you try to land an airplane with your partner. Super thematic, well implemented, an overall great game!

Lofoten
I love small box duel games, and this is a very special one! Depending on what card you play, you move and rotate your ship to load and unload cargo, trying to outsmart your opponent.

📖 Illiterati
A real-time co-op word game. I think this already sells the game well enough. A unique combination coupled with great production quality.

📚 Hero: Tales of the Tomes
A hidden gem that plays like a typical TCG like Magic, but uses a big shared deck instead of having to craft decks. Of course it has its own ruleset, plus super asymmetric characters to play as.

🪨 Cairn
Perhaps the most beautiful abstract 2p game. The gameplay immediately convinced us too, where each move has to be deeply considered, as the game state constantly changes.

💍 Similo: The Lord of the Rings
It basically gives you the gameplay experience of Mysterium or Codenames, but it’s much smaller and quicker, with virtually no setup!
