Let's just relax

π Codex Naturalis is a small, simple and relaxing card-laying game. Thematically you are assembling the pages of a manuscript, detailing the diverse plant and animal species of the forest.
In the game everyone is building their own tableau of cards. On your turns you will be playing new cards by laying them on the corner of another one (or more) of your cards. π§ They will show resource icons that they provide, and some cards will need resource icons to be able to play them. As the game goes on you will have to sacrifice some of these resource icons when you play other cards on top, to grow your tableau.
Certain cards give you points, and you are basically racing to reach 20 points - that signals the end of the game. You will check the 2 public objectives and the hidden private objective of the players and add that to the scores. Player with the most points wins. π
Codex Naturalis should be on your radar because:
π Travel sized small box
π Short yet interesting playtime at around 20 minutes β°
π Simple to teach, easy to learn
π Beautiful table presence. The (aptly named) gold cards and the objective cards have a gold foil layer on them which looks incredible. π€©
π You are constantly working towards and achieving smaller goals throughout the game, which feels very satisfying
π Very relaxing π
π¦ We canβt really find anything negative about this game. It delivers what it promises, especially for its price and size.
