LeiriaCon gaming - Part 1

I can hardly resist going for big games at convention libraries, but light games are in fact usually the better choice - you can learn them quicker and play them quicker, thus trying out more games you are interested in. πŸ˜‰ We did both, so here are some short impressions on smaller games!

🏟️ Quorum

The newest Devir game sparked our interest of course, and was one of the first games we tried out. πŸ‘ I was surprised to see that it is basically just a deck of cards. Gameplay is also simple: players just all play 12 cards, influencing the value of 6 different regions and going up their tracks, trying to score the most points. Card types have different kinds of set collection scoring which you try to maximize each game. Nothing very new, but enjoyable nonetheless.

🏞️ River Valley Glassworks

My fears regarding this game unfortunately came true. It's basically just a cozy animal theme, Andrew Bosley art, double layered boards and cool acrylic pieces. The only thing missing is the gameplay. πŸ™‰ You just draft colored glass pieces from the river to fill up rows and columns of your board for points. Way too little going on to keep it engaging while playing (even though playtime is very short). It looks so premium though.

🏰 Rebirth

This is a typical Knizia game. πŸ‘‰ Rules can be explained in about two minutes, and turns take mere seconds. It is very much tactical though, especially in the second half of the game as space gets tight. You are pretty much just placing tiles on the map and scoring them immediately, going for majorities in cities and around castles for extra points. You do need at least 3 people but preferably 4 I think, so I'm happy we had people to try the game with. The colors and presentation is superb (especially the Re-wood castles and cathedrals).

Stay tuned for another batch of light games. πŸ™ƒ
