Kristóf's favorites in 2022

Here‘s my (Kristof‘s) list as well to follow up on Reni‘s toplist of new-to-us games from 2022. ☺️ I have to reiterate how hard it is for me to compare games and decide which ones to include. I had at least 30 games that I wanted to put into this top 8. But for now let‘s go with these. ☝️First I‘ll briefly mention some that overlap with Reni‘s list:

🗡️ Pagan: Fate of Roanoke implements a brilliant theme perfectly. A 2-player card game of wits with two asymmetric sides against each other: the witch and the witch hunter. Really tense, really tactical game.

☠️ Dead Reckoning is a treat to play. The component quality is so good, and a pirate theme is always fun. The gameplay and the card crafting system works really nice too.

⛰️ Wayfarers of the South Tigris is one of our newest games, yet it quickly skyrocketed onto this list with it‘s brilliant unique take on dice worker placement and really satisfying tableau building.

And now let‘s check some of the games that weren‘t on yesterday's list: 😉

🛸 The Defence of Procyon III is easily the most complicated game we own. It‘s a big wargame with aliens and humans battling both in space and on the planet. It's a purely euro wargame and each faction uses vastly different game mechanics. This game is a true beast. 🤩

♻️ The LOOP became on of my favorite co-op games. It uses a rondel as you jump around in different eras to stop the evil Dr. Faux. The way you interact with the game in unconventional ways through deckbuilding is what makes this game really stand out.

⛵ Maracaibo is our favorite Pfister game for sure. It uses a rondel and multi-use cards. It is just a joy to play.

🦕 Perseverance Castaway Chronicles Episodes 1&2 contains not one but two heavy euro games that are somewhat similar yet feel different enough. There are dinos, dice worker placement and really top-notch production quality.

🐘 Clash of Cultures Monumental Edition is for me the definitive no-compromise 4X game. You lead your civilization and try to become the best, be it through warmongering or peaceful ways.
