Just a little rant...

Just a little rant...

Do you like Robinson Crusoe? We love it, and it was actually among the first few games we have ever purchased. 🥰 Of course we couldn’t resist the Gamefound camping for the Book of Adventures, which adds a lot more scenarios to enjoy. 3 years later ‼️😬 it’s here so we finally played this magnificent game again. Although I really want to describe in detail what makes it work so well in a future post, I also have to go on a rant a bit about the campaign and final product. There are some issues you see. 😶

I believe at first it was only supposed to be this spiral book 📒 bringing all kinds of new scenarios, but it turned into a big collector’s box new edition type deal - and of course we wanted a big box! Which leads us to the biggest transgression of the campaign: adding miniatures to the game. 😒 In the case of Robinson Crusoe it's not just unnecessary, but actually detrimental to the gameplay. You see, normally each character uses 2 little discs for their actions, with a different sticker on each side for the gender you chose. With miniatures the 2 tiny discs turn into 4 huge miniatures... and you need rings to signal who's leading the action which is an important thing in the game. It bogs the game down, and I wouldn't say it adds to the immersion at all.

Secondly the box itself. The point of a big box would be to store all game components and expansions in one place. Of course it fails in this regard too: the minis take up most of the space (the promo minis don't even fit 😄), and for everything else you basically just have a big well to drop them in. No help with setup or teardown besides a token tray. So our first order of business is to throw out all the cheap vacuum formed trays and design something ourselves. 😓

The Book turned out great, and it's good to have every scenario in one place. There is a caveat though: all the basic scenarios are in there too, and many multiple times, for multiple difficulties, meaning all those pages aren't all unique adventures unfortunately.

Oh and to reiterate, all of this nonsense needed 3 years from campaign to fulfillment. 😑 Okay, rant over. Next time I'll rave about how good Robinson Crusoe is. 😉
