July recap
Would you look at that? July is over, which means it’s time for a recap. ⏪
This month was pretty weak in gaming for us.
We are actually buying a house, which involves a lot of paperwork and time spent (who would have thought, right? 😅)
So a lot of our time was also spent either daydreaming about moving, or actually planning room layouts and searching for furniture to buy - and I think this will continue to eat up a lot of gaming-time as it’s a really exciting prospect. 😁
But now let’s highlight some of the games from July:
⚔️ Lords of Ragnarok
This beast of an area-control game is a real treat, and we definitely need to play this a lot more. Unfortunately it’s very big and time consuming, so you have to allocate a lot of time for it.
☄️ Ahau: Rulers of Yucatan
This mesoamerican-themed euro doesn’t look that complex on the surface, but as you start playing you immediately see a huge depth - every decision you make is important and has consequences. I am actually very impressed with it.
🕍 Barcelona
I expected the latest euro game from Board&Dice to be good, but it’s actually great! A super fun take on action selection, and a lot to consider and think out each turn. If you do things right you can score tons of points.
🕵️ Archeos Society
A simpler gateway game of set-collection, but it’s fast and fun gameplay and superb variability quickly convinced us of its greatness. One we can easily recommend.
🦝 Root
Playing this game will always be amazing. This time the Marauders expansion charmed us with its new factions and its hirelings. A great addition to a great game!
♣️ Setup
While we were originally uninterested in this game, it actually turned out to be quite fun! Super fast games of laying tiles and scoring sets with an interesting spatial aspect.
🌳 Evergreen
Taking out this game just fills you with cozyness. Although drafting cards and deciding what actions to take is a serious task, the nature theme sure does feel relaxing.
🏘️ Akropolis
Building a city out of tri-hex tiles and even layering them atop each other? An easy recipe for a fun time, with low stakes but high enjoyment.
