How would you react?

🎊 Re;Act is a grid-based 1v1 dueling game played with asymmetric characters - artists, who have been blessed with magical powers that they can channel through their individual art forms!
Battles are played in an arena with you and your opponent starting on opposite ends. Your goal is simple: deal 3 damage to the other. You interact with the game by playing cards to try to outsmart your opponent.
⛓️ The core of the game is the so called ‘React Chain’. On your turn you start a chain by playing an Intention Card, which your opponent may react to by using a Reaction Card. Whether they reacted or not, you can play your own Reaction Card to the chain. You do this until both of you pass or there are 5 cards in the chain then resolve them in reverse order. This is how you can dodge attacks and surprise your opponent! 😁
👌 Let’s not forget your ‘Masterpieces’ that work like an ultimate-meter in fighting games. You try to assemble the whole 3-piece picture to ascend your character and unlock powerful abilities. But there are only 5 spaces where you can put cards, so you will continuosly fight each other trying to complete your own masterpiece.
🔥 The theme is really unique and provides an unusual roster of characters. You can step into the shoes of a calligrapher, a dancer, a painter, a tagger, a sculptor, an animator, a tattooist or a fortune teller. All of them with their own twists, mechanics and tricks. The asymmetry of the game really shines. 😍
💬 Our first game played was Calligrapher vs the Painter. The Calligrapher can ink other standees in the arena, enabling her to interact with them, and can also summon brush spirits that do her bidding. The Painter doesn’t have a deck of cards, instead uses inspiration as a currency and dice to do actions. She can summon armaments (a sword, a shield and a bow) diagonally adjacent to her, and they all move together. The game provides many possibilities for strategic play. We loved how tense our duel was, until the Calligrapher managed to execute a combo suddenly finishing off the poor Painter.
The Kickstarter campaign for Re;Act starts tomorrow, so do check it out! 😉

A prototype of this game was kindly shared by the publisher for us to try out. Just a heads-up: all the components are prototypes, so things might look or play a bit differently in the final version. For more details, check out our content policy.
