Happy New Year!
Letโs start off 2023 with some rondel-goodness - an overview of ๐ฐ Red Cathedral! We absolutely enjoyed playing this during our last convention and now it finally landed in our collection. ๐ It has one of the coolest rondel implementations we have ever seen! ๐
Here is how it works: ๐ง When you collect resources in Red Cathedral you choose one of the 5 dice and move it as many spaces in a clockwise direction as its value. Then you get the resources shown on the space you land on as many times as there are dice there. So landing in a spot with other dice is really beneficial. To complicate things more, dice can be upgraded so you get their bonuses, plus there are also influence cards for the four quadrants that you can activate. After you are finished you reroll every dice that are in the space you used. There is a lot to consider each turn you go for this action! Potentially AP inducing. ๐
The turn structure itself is quite simple. On your turn you can either:
๐ฉ Claim a section of the cathedral that only you will be able to build, plus get an upgrade tile that will improve future actions of the die you upgrade.
๐ Deliver 3 resources to cathedral sections you have claimed.
๐ Gather resources in the aforementioned way.
You can all claim and build 6 sections and the game ends when someone finishes their 6th. Then you check majorities for each tower of the cathedral and add it to the points acquired during play todetermine the winner. ๐
๐ฌ You have to know when to do which action. You are always on the lookout for dice that can be used for optimal resource gathering - but space in your warehouse is limited so you have to keep delivering resources. Claiming sections is also quite strategic because of the majority scoring, but getting good workshop tiles and sections with ideal resource costs is important too (plus at first claiming frees up spaces in your storage).
To summarize, this game is great, and we will play and cover it more for sure! ๐
