Govern your city in space
In Cities of Venus you step into the shoes of a Governor, managing your floating city in the clouds of Venus. ☁️ You will have to manage your V-nauts, optimally organize personnel for all the stations and prepare for every possible emergency. Each round you gather modules from the supply runs sent from Earth, and have to be ready in case they were the last - which signals the end of the game.
Each round you draw supply drop cards, which depict different station upgrades or boosts. If there are event symbols on them, you have to draw event cards too - which could be good, but mostly will be disastrous. 🙀 If you are no fan of radiation leaks, you better get used to it - life on the floating city can be challenging! 😅 Events keep you on your toes, and your number of V-nauts will keep fluctuating. Your population also grows depending on how many people you have in the food and life-support stations. After this you get to do some city actions, like sending a V-naut to a one-way mining mission: this produces minerals depending on your die roll. At the end of the round you can buy a card from the display in player order. Every card depicts icons as their cost - either minerals, or station icons. You pay for these by discarding V-nauts from the corresponding stations.
🌎 You play rounds like this up until the Earth card is drawn, which means communication with Earth is cut off, and no more supplies are coming. Your goal is to have the most points when this happens.
✌️ This game is a quite thematic and accessible resource conversion puzzle. Your V-nauts are your resources, the station they are in determining their type. You have to cleverly upgrade your station, so the bonuses you get are optimal, but at the same time have enough people in case of emergencies - and ideally have lots of people in food and life-support so you have an influx of new V-nauts.
Cities of Venus will have an awesome neoprene mat, resource trays and quad-layer player boards where you can tuck in your upgrade cards - coming to Kickstarter on 02.05!
A prototype of this game was kindly shared by the publisher for us to try out. Just a heads-up: all the components are prototypes, so things might look or play a bit differently in the final version. For more details, check out our content policy.
