Gen Con recap - Day 2
Cats are everywhere at GenCon, and we are here for it! 😻
First Boop the Halls, and awesome Boop plushies. Nekojima also seems to be doing very well. There are also cat dice available, or cat-shaped dice trays (which we had to buy 😄), cat hats, people walking around with cat ears and so many more things.
After lining up to get the final game from our wishlist (Cronologic) that we didn’t manage to grab yesterday, we met up with Auguste from Matagot and played a game of ⛩️ Kyoto No Neko, which is easily the cutest game at the con. The box cover art itself has charmed us a long time ago! We'll cover it in more detail soon, but I am shamelessly using it for like-hunting here. 🤭
We finally started to explore the exhibit hall systematically - the huge banners showing the aisle numbers are a great help, but it’s easy to get sidetracked. We just don’t want to miss anything this time around, as tends to happen at these conventions. 😅 We also went to the Lucas Oil Stadium which hosts even more events and gaming area, including a huge game library. It’s cool to see so many people playing so many different games, be it tabletop RPGs, historical wargames, or niche stuff like Diplomacy.
At the end of the day we couldn’t resist going to BGG’s Hot Games Room again, which has all the newest releases available for playing.
First up was 🖥 Compile, a tug of war game reminiscent of Critters at War, but with some different twists.
🎼 Sirens is a simple 18-card card drafting game, as you are linking up 6 cards to make a better song than your opponent to lure away sailors.
🎎 Chu Han is basically a cross between Scout and trick-taking but as a 2p focused experience. We love it already, but it will only release later I believe.
🧨 Bomb Busters is an amazing logical deduction game, as you are defusing bombs as a team. Even though you can play with 2 players too, we think it gets a bit easier to solve unfortunately. (But there are also 66 scenarios with tuckboxes to uncover, so it probably gets a lot harder).
We finished up with 🕊 Oh My Pigeons, which is just a crazy party game and super simple. I love the vibe it has going on though. :D
