Games on the radar - UKGE edition
It’s time to get hyped again! UKGE is in less than 2 weeks, and it will be our first board game convention of the year. 🥳 And also actually our first time at UKGE!
Though many of the big games will be released later this year, we will have a chance to take a look at a bunch of interesting stuff.
And talking about interesting stuff, let’s highlight some that we have our eyes on! 😁
🗿 Ancient Knowledge looks like a super fun strategic card game. You have engine building by placing out monument and artifact cards - as time passes between rounds, your cards will be pushed down a row and eventually disappear. So you will have to keep rebuilding and maintaining a good engine and trying to find synergistic combos. I’m excited to try this game! 😊
📕 Books of Time is one we managed to try already at last year’s SPIEL, and it should be released now at UKGE. It’s a unique engine builder, as players each have 3 books - trade, science and industry - which they will be adding new pages to and activating their bonuses.
⛪ Kutná Hora is the newest big box title coming from CGE. Theme-wise it’s again about building a medieval city and contributing to the construction of its cathedral. However the gameplay sounds interesting and is supposedly super heavy too. A card-based action selection and a dynamic economy system with a bunch of player interaction. I hope we get to try this too! 😉
🏚️ The Presence only plays 3-5 players which is normally a no-go for us, but this one has a super interesting premise: the game puts you in a victorian-era ghost story. One player plays as the Presence and the others are Victims. However a game can be either fully co-operative or one-vs-many and you don’t know at the beginning. So it sounds like a cool take on Betrayal at House on the Hill, and we are intrigued!
I think we’ll be covering more games, as there are a lot to be excited about (as always 😄)!
