Games on the radar - Gen Con edition
Here is a crazy fact for you: Gen Con will start in 18 days! 😱
I’d say it’s time to get hyped, but to be honest I’ve been hyped for months already. 😄 And what better way to share the hype, than talk about upcoming games that interest us.
🧙 Clash of Magic Schools
A 2p tug-of-war type game? Count me in.
You play as headmasters of 2 magic schools, facing off in a prestigious duel.
Playing student cards to 5 different arenas, positioning them to pass trials or to cast their unique spells, and generally trying to outplay your opponent. I’m curious how it works in practice.
👁️ Flashback: Lucy
As far as I understand, this game is a combination of a graphic novel and an escape room-esque game, as you are solving a mystery. You play as Lucy, a young woman with a strange power, as you get visions and get to explore a mansion in different time periods.
The “7+” age rating makes me anxious that the difficulty might not be for us, but the story also seems to be a dark mystery, which is less for children. Anyway, I’m very interested in trying this out!
🕵️ Intent to Kill
This a 2-4 player game that seems to be well suited for 2p. One side plays as detective, the other side as the culprit. Each turn the detective interrogates civilians and the bad guy tries to misdirect them. Bodies keep piling up for 5 rounds, so you have to find out which civilian is the guilty one. Sounds like a cool deduction game, I just hope both sides are equally fun to play.
🐺 Lone Wolves
Another 2p duel game! This one is a mix of trick-taking and area control. You play tricks to fight over different territories. The winner of a trick gets to keep their card there for its strength value and the loser has to flip it over, but they gain a scar token that helps them out in other ways. Certainly sounds like a fun time to me!
