Fun spin on the old classic

Fun spin on the old classic

❓Do you like tin-box games? We are on a “workation” this week and we packed a few new tin games too. Here is the first one: 🏞️ Tic Tac Trek! This is a delightful little game that mixes tic-tac-toe and tile-laying in a way I definitely haven’t seen before, and it looks so cozy! 😍 It’s all contained in a tiny tin box, making it perfect to take along for traveling.

Now normally tic-tac-toe is not something I’d write home about - but add an additional juicy twist on top and suddenly it’s intriguing! 🙃 So let me tell about how it works!

To begin you just put all the chunky wooden tiles into the bag, and gather your 6 cute campfire tokens - either with the Circle or the X-Symbol. That’s the setup done in 10 seconds. 😄 You will then both alternate taking turns, drawing a tile and placing it with your symbol showing on top in the shared playing area. There are 4 different terrain types that have to go adjacent to the same terrain, plus 2 lake tiles that act as wilds. Diagonals don’t count as adjacent, so this terrain-adjacency rule strongly influences your tic-tac-toeing endeavours!

Line up 3 of your symbols, and you get to place a campfire token on the tile you just placed 👍 - meaning that you also lose a symbol, making the next 3-in-a-row a bit harder. You continue playing until the tiles run out, then you see who has won. It is not whoever placed more campfires, there is a bit of scoring instead! 🧐 Campfires next to spaces without tiles are worth more points, so you don’t just want to place as much campfires as possible, but put them on the edges of the little landscape you are building. ☝️

So there you have it. A really simple & really small game, but offering a bit of a twist on a classic abstract. The components themselves are superb and look very nice and cozy. 😊
