Four little abstract games from Asia
Have you ever wondered or maybe also researched what games people played long before our time and how they work? I think it’s a fascinating topic! 😊
The cult of the new is a well known phenomena in the board gaming hobby. While I am definitely guilty as charged 🙈 for always craving the newest shiny board game, I also appreciate childhood memories of playing games like the mill game with my dad, who also learned those from his parents, and so on. 🙃 This is why I was excited to try the “prototype” of the upcoming ancient game collection from Lemery Games. It’s called ♟️Ludos: Asia and it contains 4 small abstract strategy games from 4 different countries from the continent! I was really curious how those games compare to the ones we have in our culture.
All 4 games come in a travel sized little box with a little pouch and cloth mat inside so it’s easy to take it with you wherever you go. ✈️ The games are:
🇯🇵 Hasami Shogi from Japan- lead a samurai clan in a clash against a rival clan
🇲🇳 Jarmo from Mongolia - assume the roles of opposing armies, fighting and trying to infiltrate each other’s bases
🇰🇷 Yut from Korea - a horse racing game that was played both for gambling and simple family fun
🇳🇵 Bagh Chal from Nepal - defend against the threat of tigers as goats, or hunt goats as the tigers
These all have many different variants out there as they are traditional games; in this collection you get the versions hand picked by Tamas and Krisztina of Lemery Games that they deemed to be the best, along with a few additional variants.
The Kickstarter campaign launches tomorrow and we’ll be covering these 4 games in more detail soon.
But as of now it’s definitely a campaign I think is worth checking out. Not only does it offer a beautiful collection with awesome production quality, backers also contribute to a good cause: for every 2 collection boxes sold, Lemery Games is distributing a game in the countries that inspired this collection. To make this campaign accessible to everyone, there will be a tier where you can pay any amount you want to get one of the games.
