February Recap

February Recap

January and February have flown by quite fast, but I actually don’t mind as I dislike winter. 🥶 Time for springtime and a lot more daylight! 😁 Our gaming time is still quite heavily influenced by the aftershocks of moving to a new house, and of course because we are building our new gaming room! 💪 Although we didn’t have that much gaming, we did manage to make great headway with the building project, so we can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel! Can’t wait to share more about the completed room! ☺️ For now let’s recap some games we enjoyed playing!

🌾 Expeditions

I was a tiny bit wary about this game, but turns out it’s amazing! A focused gameplay experience of engine-building and action optimization, as you explore the lands with your mech after a meteor impact.

Ready to go on an expedition?
Have you played Expeditions? The game leads you to the same universe you might know from Scythe - with the breathtaking art from Jakub Rozalski. 😊 This time everything is a bit more sinister and supernatural: a meteorite crashes in Siberia and it awakens some kind of ancient corruption. Now expeditions
More about Expeditions
Let’s take a closer look at Expeditions! We’ve already stated that despite it being not overly complex, we still find the gameplay engaging and thinky. There are two main mechanisms we appreciate in this game: the simple yet interesting action selection and the hand management aspect! On each

👑 Le Roy des Ribauds

A 2p wallet game with only 16 cards, yet interesting mechanics! Rounds can be over in minutes and gameplay is thinky (not just in spite, but because of the shortness).

Tiny but mighty
As you might know, I really love the concept of micro games, and how a few components can still lead to fun gameplay. 🙂 Le Roy des Ribauds fits this bill exactly. It has just 16 cards, which are 4 copies of 4 types, but it’s still exciting and strategic!

🔥 Elawa

A quick and engaging little card drafting game, with an interesting resource-collection mechanic thanks to a rondel!

A prehistoric adventure packed in a small box
Today I want to show you another small card game: 🪬Elawa, the smaller sibling of Knarr (they were both recently released by Bombyx and share some core mechanics). This time it’s a simple card drafting game bolstered by the power of rondels. It’s about prehistoric tribes; you are a

🦥 Search for the Lost Species

The fact that this game is great should be no real surprise after Planet X. But it is even greater than its predecessor, and a bit more complex too. A super fun logical deduction game!

In search of a myth
‘The Search for Planet X’ was probably our favorite logical deduction game so far, so we have been excited for the new game following in its footsteps: 🔎🐾 The Search for the Lost Species! As you learn and play the game you can really feel the similarities between them, as the
Planets vs species
I think it’s only natural to do a direct comparison between 🐾 Search for the Lost Species and 🪐 Seach for Planet X - Species is basically a sequel to Planet X, even their names are alike. Having played both I think I prefer Species, but Planet X still remains one

🏝️ My Island

A legacy tile-laying game is just as good as it sounds. If you know and enjoy My City, you will be happy with My Island. It does many of the same things with new ideas and new tweaks - and more importantly, hexes!

How about a tile-laying legacy game?
🏝️My Island is a tile-laying legacy game, that builds upon the success of My City, which implemented this concept in 2020. Basically, you will play 24 subsequent games, each time unlocking something new and permanently altering your game. 😉 For each victory, players can mark off circles on their board, which

🗿 Lost Ruins of Arnak

Revisiting this game is always a blast. It’s definitely one of my biggest favorites, and the new Missing Expedition expansion elevates this game even higher. The co-op campaign it offers works splendidly too and is challenging!

The missing expedition
Getting The Lost Ruins of Arnak back to the table is like having Christmas dinner. It’s just so scrumptious. 😍 And it’s not just the looks, the gameplay experience is amazing every time - it’s so crunchy and there are so many ways to do things, it really
You really shouldn’t miss this expedition
An important part of ‘The Missing Expedition’ is a solo/co-op campaign that it adds to Arnak. We love co-op games, but there aren’t many that are blended with point salad-y euros, and those we have tried so far have kind of failed. Thus I was a bit wary

🏘️ Tenby

An upcoming card drafting tableau-builder, in which you build your version of the town Tenby by linking up terraces and piers, and scoring according to the features depicted on cards.

Discover a cozy little harbour town with us
🏘️ Tenby is a harbour town and resort in southwest Wales. It is also the name of an upcoming card game that will premiere soon on Kickstarter! 😊 In Tenby you draft cards to build your own version of the town, by cleverly linking up terraces, piers and landmarks, trying to score

😸 MLEM: Space Agency

A push-your-luck dice game of cat-astronauts. A really well implemented concept with a funny theme of cats.

The craziest cat game in the whole galaxy
What’s the craziest theme and/or artwork you’ve ever seen in games? 😸MLEM: Space Agency (or “Die Astrokatzen” in Germany) is sure close to that! It is a push-your-luck game of 🎲 dice rolling. Now I’m normally not one for RNG dice games, but I can 100% vouch
