Endless fun with only 18 cards

As you may know Critters at War (which is the animal themed version of Air, Land & Sea) is a brilliant 2-player card game with only 18 cards, yet amazing strategic depth. 🤩 The new expansion Flies, Lies & Supplies gives you 18 new cards to spice up the game. The original version had 3 theatres of war: Air, Land and Sea; now you get 3 more: Intelligence, Diplomacy and Economics. 🧐
👆The core gameplay remains the same: you shuffle the deck, get 6 cards each, the remaining 6 remain face down and unknown to you both. Then you play 1 card to the theatres every turn until you run out of cards or someone surrenders - at the end of the round you check who has the bigger sum of values in the 3 different theatres and whoever controls more wins the round. You continue playing like this until someone has 12 points, which could take 2-4 wins. 🏆
The depth of the game comes from the abilities of the cards and the fact that you can play them facedown too as neutral cards. Some abilities will also flip cards, which could deal a blow to your opponent or cause some nasty surprises as you turn your earlier facedown card up unexpectedly. 🙀
With the 18 new cards come new rules, new possible tactics, strategies and mind games to reinvigorate the game. 🙃 If you have both the original game and the expansion you can also randomly choose 3 threatres out of the 6 to play in new unique combinations. Or if you are feeling adventurous you can try the Epic Mode, in which you choose 5 theatres of war and play with 10 cards in your hand. 😯 The game also has a 3-4 player variant where you play in 2 teams against each other.
It still amazes me how it is possible to make an interesting and strategic game with only 18 cards. 😍 If you haven’t yet, you should definitely check these games out!
