Dreamescape continued

Dreamescape by @badcatgames is an upcoming choose-your-own-adventure style game with a Cthulhu-mythos setting that we had the pleasure of trying out. It brings some interesting mechanics into the mix to provide a unique experience!
It’s now live on Gamefound, so do check it out! And read our previous post about it if you haven’t done so yet. 😉

The most important aspect in games like this is probably the text, as you will be reading a lot, and I have to say all of the snippets we read were super descriptive and detailed so they transported us into these hazy dreamscapes. The language used is also somewhat similar to H. P. Lovecraft’s novels with an elaborate choice of words. So as a bonus, you can even grow your English vocabulary if you are not a native speaker. 😉

Dreamescape has quite a bit of a survival aspect to it, as you are managing your health and sanity trying to survive, plus you have different skill icons that can aid you in certain situations. Your deja-vu and lucid dreaming stats give you an edge to manipulate the dreams you are in, for example making tests easier or bypassing them. You are sometimes also punished with Cthulhu tokens that cover up icons on your board making you weaker, or you could get Elder Signs that are powerful one-use tools.

👌Items are cleverly implemented too: they can have additional icons to help you with tests, but you could also trade them away in other situations. My favorite is how cards can have special symbols on them that you could combine with other cards with the same symbol to unlock secret paths. It adds a cool mystery flavor to the game.

☝️The game is hard, as most similar games tend to be. You will have to do repeated plays to get familiar with the challenges you will face, and failed tests can alter the direction you go in. Your ultimate goal is to wake up from dreaming before Cthulhu completely corrupts your mind - it may sound easy, but it is not.

The campaign offers multiple scenario boxes with diverse locations and things to explore, and as I understand you will be able to add these in to increase the fun and replayability! 🤩
